"In this world there are talkers and listeners. it is safe to say that i am a listener. if i had a choice i would much prefer to listen to others than to voice my own thoughts. somehow i feel i sound better in my head than i do out loud. i realise that others are better at articulating so leave the talking to them. im not sure if i should be trying to change this or not. there is definitely a place for listeners in the world but i always feel i should conciously try to be more of a talker, like it will be better for me. i think its a ‘youngest in the family’ thing…."
So last year I put on 20 pounds. At first I didn’t realize, but when I went home to Australia for Christmas and had to fit into my summer shorts, well… guess what happened? I was pretty upset. I started going to the gym a lot and “dieting.”
Since I’ve been back in New York, I’ve continued the…
I love sitting in wild places, waiting for animals and behaviour. Sometimes it’s for days at a time with hardly any sleep, but I get to make a connection with the earth that it’s only possible to make by being totally still and silent. Your senses are heightened, smell, sight and hearing – everything become sharpened and for a brief time you can become part of a landscape – its magic! Verity White
I imagine my friendships as a spider’s web. Strands reach out in different directions; some towards college, others towards London or other parts of the country. A few have to stretch across oceans and bypass countries or continents to reach bloggers in America or Australia. Occasionally the horizontal skeins join one friend to another as lives overlap, often in unexpected ways. For me, the existence of this disparate collection of individuals and social spheres is a continual source of pleasure. Rosalind Jana http://clothescamerasandcoffee.blogspot.co.uk/
This song is beautiful. Their voices are so pure my hairs stand on end. I have been listening to it pretty much on repeat every day this week while I have been working in the library. The lyric ‘there’s nothing more to it, I just get through it’ have definitely matched my essay writing vibes. We ask ourselves how we survive at uni and there’s nothing more to it… we just get through it.
I’m seeing these chicas in two weeks time and no doubt their performance will bring a tear to my eye. They are a perfect mid-November treat.
The Marvellous Spatuletail (Loddigesia mirabilis). My bird of the week after watching Natural World: Attenborough’s Ark, which is great and you should all go watch it right now. There are so many beautiful animals in the world that few people know about. So much so that they could disappear without anyone being able to share their mysterious beauty. Watching programs like Attenborough’s Ark that teach a wider audience about the small conservation projects happening in little corners of the world reassures me that my animal behaviour and welfare science degree will stand me in good stead to do what I have always wanted to do; SAVE THE ANIMALS……especially the weird and wonderful.
For FMM today we have a blissed-out exclusive from London duo Maribou State who are signed to Southern Fried, the label that’s also home to our friends the 2 Bears. This track’s called ‘Scarlett Groove’ and is perfect for kicking back to.
